Glass Courses at the Glass Hub
with James Devereux and KT Yun
hot glass sculpture by James Devereux
This course is designed to introduce students to the exciting processes used to sculpt hot glass. Students will focus on understanding the potential of hot glass as a sculpting medium, learning how to work in a team, and will practice various ways of applying the hot glass and making components.  Through a process of demonstrations and individual time at the bench, students will be encouraged to push hot glass (and themselves) to the limit!  An experimental, fun and technique based course, focused on sculptural vessels or solid forms, this day is a taster for more sculpture courses coming up in the Autumn. Some glass making skills are required.
James creates sculptural solid forms and blown pieces of sculpture from his studio in Wiltshire, and is capable of working with many styles and techniques.  He has been both glass technician and student at the RCA.  Previously working with artists and other glass makers including Simon Moore, Louis Thompson, Liam Reeves, and KT Yun, he has absorbed a rich dictionary of glass-making languages. As an instructor in Scuba diving and a keen photographer, James brings his experiences to his own personal glass work, by looking extensively at the physical interactions with materials and feelings through the making process.

KT uses hot glass as her chosen artistic material and is passionate about the process as well as the product, using traditional techniques and merging them into contemporary styling - producing unique and graphic imagery. Her creations investigate the fluidity and possibilities of glass in its liquid form. KT has travelled and worked in many glass factories and studios throughout Europe, including Philip Baldwin and Monica Guggisberg, Lino Tagliapietra and Dale Chihuly. She was an original founder of the Liquid Glass Centre, but has more recently worked with glassblower Sonja Klingler. KT is a co-director of Minimelt Glass, producing small mobile glass blowing furnaces, and co-director of The Glass Hub.
